Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) and Chris Watson (born in Paris). As a child she attended her school, the Dragon School in Oxfordshire. Emma always had the desire to become a professional actor since she was six. She was enrolled at Stagecoach Theatre Arts in Oxford, an acting school that offers part-time classes. At the age of 10, she was performing and taking as the main character in several Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the film version of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British novel began casting in 1999. Emma was discovered by agent through their Oxford teacher. David Heyman told Emma along with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe that they had all been through eight straight auditions. Emma's screen debut took place with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's premiere in 2001. It set records for opening day and weekend numbers, and was the highest-grossing film of 2001. Critics were impressed with the film and its performance. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her excellent performance. Emma got five nominations in recognition of her exceptional performance. In the end, she received the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actresses of a Film.
